A large family gather to celebrate a birthday. It would seem like a great reason to get together. But the family is just a project of one of the "brothers" — an experienced psychologist who is conducting an experiment to create a "happiness formula". He believes that manipulating others, their emotions and desires, will make them happy. However, love interferes with the mathematical calculations, which can neither be calculated nor predicted.

When director Heiner Mühlenbrock showed up with his cameras to document the tense April 1983 recording sessions for the final Birthday Party EP, Mutiny!, the group was well beyond the verge of dissolution and barely on speaking terms. Mutiny! was cut at Hansa Ton studios in Berlin.

The series features the Los Angeles comedy group of the same name (UCB Theatre Los Angeles, Just for Laughs Festival) along with Odenkirk and is in the classic vein of absurd/silly/smart/funny variety shows ("Mr. Show", Monty Python), featuring sketches that twist real-life moments and cultural touchstones.
